R.o.b.
Technologism is the founding doctrine of the Teran nation, its roots buried somewhere deep in the fog of prehistory. It’s assumed today that their worship of science and technology evolved naturally after the original Terans split off from the magic-embracing-Domovinians. It’s not surprising then that the colonists of New Teras brought that ideology with them when they returned to the homeland.
Robotics began to appear a couple of centuries ago in Teras. It began with clockwork automatons that were barely more than an oddity, and has progressed to the hyper-efficient killing machines of today, ever watchful on the edge of the Great Waste. The first few generations of sentry bots were a revelation, an order of magnitude leap in destructive power and intelligence, to the eyes of the Technocrats they were the walking proof of the supremacy of their ideology. And they were impressive, but perfect? No, far from it, the reality was that one in every ten sentries that came off the line was defective.
It's unknown exactly how the sentrybot, now called R.o.b., escaped the smelting heap. And It’s an even deeper mystery how he gained seeming independent thoughts and a sense of morality. What is known however is that he’d lived peacefully for decades among the people of Antoine. Eventually falling while defending the village against a raid, his self-healing circuitry damaged in the fight, he’s sat in a dormant state since then waiting to be woken up.
